Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Chapter 1
Socks of Love - each February our members deliver Valentine's Day cheer to the residents of the Reserve Veterans War Home. It's a great opportunity to let our older veterans know they are not forgotten.
Our Community Salutes - each spring we honor local high school seniors enlisting in the military after graduation. This is an opportunity to thank these brave young men and women who are committed to serving and protecting our country.
Gold Star Family Day Luncheon - it is our mission to always honor and remember the sacrifices of our fellow military families. We partner with Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs to host a beautiful ceremony at the Gold Star Monument located in Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park in September each year.
Memorial Day Garden of Flags and Ceremony - every Memorial Day weekend we honor the Louisiana Natives who gave their life in service to our country. We plant 11, 000 American Flags on the grounds of the Louisiana State Capitol. Each flags represents a fallen hero from the American Revolutionary War to present day. The public is invited to participate in the flag planting. Our flags are carried through the streets of Baton Rouge by the For Our Fallen organization as a tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters.
Red, Rock & Blue - we are so grateful for the support and generosity of so many people. Local Sportscaster Jacques Doucet is one of those supporters. Jacques and his team host the annual Red, Rock & Blue invitational softball and kickball tournament and concert every summer. Over 80 teams come together to help local military charities. Veteran's Day - our chapter looks forward to attending as many ceremonies as possible throughout Veteran's Day. We are so pleased to participate in the Gonzales Veteran's Day ceremony by pinning area Veteran's with a lapel pin honoring their service. The ceremony is held on November 11th at 11:00 a.m.
Wreaths Across America Ceremony - in conjunction with the event that is held at Arlington each December, our chapter host the Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Baton Rouge National Cemetery. We seek sponsorship of wreaths, then invite the public to attend and help us lay the wreaths on servicemen and women's graves. The mission of Wreaths Across America is to Honor*Remember*Teach!
