Many years ago two young men, Jacques Doucet and Taylor Begnaud, started a softball tournament (The Doucet/Begnaud Invitational) in their backyards. This simple game of friends has become a powerful charity fundraiser for Louisiana military. It was Taylor's idea initially to give the money to a military charity after he served in the United States Army. The Red, Rock & Blue Doucet/Begnaud Invitational is held each summer. Teams from across the south come together to support military charities. The Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana are proud recipients of this great event. The proceeds we receive will help fund our military scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded each spring.
The Camille Alyse Begnaud Military Scholarship is named after Taylor and his wife Angelle's beautiful little angel Camille. (Taken from her obituary) Camille left this earth to bring her joy to heaven on June 26, 2011. Camille's light filled a multitude of hearts with her smile, laughter, and love. She was a beautiful, brilliant, and loving child who had a strong will and an enduring spirit. She was affectionately called "Punkie". Because of Taylor's service to our country, and he and Jacques's continued commitment to our military and their families, we feel it is only fitting to name our scholarship in memory of Camille.
We hope it is a lasting tribute to a beautiful young life taken too soon and it is our prayer that those suffering with PTSD will always remember to "live a life worthy of their sacrifice".
